Moving from Feature Matching to Intent Alignment
If you caught last week's issue on the Algorithmic Matchmaker, you know the era of relying on casual coffees with AWS Account Managers is being replaced by machine-driven discovery.
But this week, I want to take that a step further.
When a customer or an AWS seller interacts with these new discovery engines, they don't approach the machine asking the question most SaaS companies think they ask.
They don't ask whether a vendor has feature set X, Y, and Z.
Instead, they type a message born out of frustration: they are dealing with problems A, B, and C, and want to know how to solve them without breaking their current architecture.
If your GTM strategy is built around a static list of product features, you are optimizing for a conversation that isn't happening. To win in this new environment, your Better Together story must transition from feature matching to intent alignment.
Capturing the Intent Behind the Problem
Let's look at how this plays out in the real world with an enterprise deployment platform.
The customer intent isn't to buy a new dashboard; the customer intent is to scale containerized operations without creating an administrative nightmare.
The problem that arises here is that when AWS customers grow, their demand for EKS usage grows with it. Traditionally, engineers push updates to EKS via open-source gitops tools. One cluster, one gitops instance to manage, no problem.
But managing multiple clusters with one instance creates a single point of failure — a nightmare for enterprise security. Again though, no issue — you just use multiple instances of that gitops tool.
But you have a new problem: this becomes an engineering nightmare and an administrative burden to manage, distracting engineers from their primary goals.
When an engine crawls for solutions, it isn't searching for the platform's specific UI features. It is matching the intent of a director of engineering who is crying about cluster sprawl and administrative lag.
By stepping in to create a simple-to-use single pane of glass to manage all instances of those gitops tools, the deployment platform directly solves the operational bottleneck that stops a customer from scaling out their cloud environments.
Activating the Power of 3
This intent-driven narrative becomes even more powerful when you layer in your customer's incumbent enterprise configuration and infrastructure-as-code tooling.
The buyer's intent here is total environment automation — from baseline infrastructure to live application delivery.
While the infrastructure tool is excellent at provisioning, answering how the core environment gets spun up, it isn't built to natively manage continuous gitops pipelines and application delivery states across hundreds of live Kubernetes clusters. A modern deployment ISV bridges this gap by plugging directly into that existing management provider via open APIs.
Now, the infrastructure tool acts as the baseline provider, the deployment platform acts as the gitops control plane, and AWS provides the scalable EKS environment running the actual containerized workloads.
This isn't a pitch about a list of features across three different software products. It is an aligned solution that directly answers the customer's core intent: removing the security and management delays that block teams from spinning up new usage on AWS.
The Bottom Line
When the matching engine queries for Kubernetes sprawl or EKS management bottlenecks, this integrated framework surfaces because it speaks the language of the bottleneck, not the product data sheet.
For an AWS account manager, presenting a solution framed entirely around solving this operational friction is the fastest way to unblock customer projects, increase infrastructure consumption, and ultimately benefit their quota.
Tip of the Week
Stop positioning your product as a standalone tool that requires a customer to rewrite their deployment policy. Position it as the missing puzzle piece that plugs into the infrastructure they already paid for — AWS — and the environment management workflows they already trust. When you make the implementation path a non-event, you make the sales path a certainty.
